Movin' On Up

Kyle is obviously at risk for developmental delays. The doctors have warned us of this since the day he was born.

We have been very proactive in doing all we can to help minimize any delays Kyle has. Two months before his due date, our little two pound baby began physical therapy.

I have always tried to give Kyle every advantage to help him succeed.

The furniture in the room where our family typically gathers is not very conducive to babies climbing, and specifically, learning to pull up.

As such, I have bought Kyle a collection of toys that are sure to encourage him to pull up. I say that I bought these for Kyle because, each time I come home with another, Joe rolls his eyes at me. But, I tell him these toys are just so fabulous, they are sure to entice Kyle to pull up so that he can play with them.

Well, this week Kyle finally pulled himself up for the first time! And, what do you think he used?

Maybe this musical Leap Frog toy....

Or this fun little play house....

This scooter from Grandma and Grandpa looks like lots of fun...

And this Fisher Price toy is sure to get him going. It even has convenient handles to help him pull up...

Surprisingly, none of these did the trick.

Instead, Kyle crawled over to the couch where the cat was laying. Grabbed hold of the cat's tail, and hoisted himself up.

Disclaimer: No cats were harmed! In fact, the cat just laid there without flinching while Kyle "hung" on.

Perhaps this is the Lord again reminding me that I just need to have patience.

In my defense, now that Kyle has practiced on the cat, he is using the toys to stand with.

I KNEW cats were good for something. Kidding. I'm glad he's getting around well! Its funny, if we added up all the money we spent on toys for our daughter that she opted to discard in lieu of something free, we could probably buy a second home. A cooler full of ice was better than any other toy we could fathom...kept her busy for hours!

Go Kyle!

Isn't it funny how much we will pay for toys? Nothing I've ever bought my daughter has enticed her as such things as the remote control, the telephone, the laptop, etc.

How wonderful!

In regards to the toys...I'd pay a small fortune for a toy that would guarantee to entertain my boy long enough for me to cook supper. Alas, such a toy has yet to be invented. :)

Wouldn't you know it!

Kids are so funny, and I am sure he was just trying to get a better look at his toys and thought the cat would want to see too! :)

Boxes work wonders too :)

I'm happy he is progressing. My son has been labeled 'delayed' and I am constantly thinking of what I can buy to 'fix' him when what he really needs is support and time.
Lovely verse!

So cute. I think little ones have a connection with animals. My granddaughter loves our cat and goes straight to her each time she comes in the door. Your little guy is so cute.

Way to go Kyle! How cute is that.

It seems you buy them a present and after they open it they want to play with the box it came in, or the wrapping paper!

Maybe the toys are for us adults!!

Regardless, I am so happy for his accomplishment:)

Ingenious, Kyle. What a very resourceful boy you have on your hands!!

Those toy making companies sure know how to entice us mums in every time. It always seems like such a good idea in the shop and you convince yourself that this will be the toy that will be worth its weight in gold.

For us, we're now back to basics as far as toys go and we've never looked back. Simple toys or things we already have in the house - bits of material, kitchen utensils, boxes etc, are always winners and keep our little girl busy.

Yeah for Kyle. Rylee is actually clapping for Kyle as I say yeah!! He is getting ready to take off soon. Before we know it both of them will be none stop. I am so excited to see you soon. I told my mom she has to come to the party because she can't miss Kyle again. She said for you-she'll be there. She can't wait to see him and you of course. Hope you have a great weekend.

That made me chuckle.
Way to go for pulling up like that! I remember milestones being such a huge part of my girls' lives.

That is too adorable!

My kids have been, so far, more interested in the wrapping paper and boxes at Christmas and birthdays than the gifts. And if the gifts are clothes they get thrown out along with the tissue paper. They could care less about the cutest outfit on the planet.

Kyle, good job!
They look like great toys to encourage Kyle to pull himself up. He must have more faith in the cat though.
Kids are funny they do things on their own time.
Have a great week.

Wow! I guess you could tell the cat thank you for finally pulling his share around the house! :)

That is so funny. What a great cat you have that s/he didn't move! Our cats (from my childhood) would definitely have give us a swipe with claws out!

And we have the exact same walker in a different colour combo.

Good for Kyle though... happy days now that he's mobile!

Way to go Kyle!

That's awesome! Our kitty is so sweet to our toddler too. I mean if you count tapping her in the head with declawed paw when she gets too close.

He's doing good, Momma!

I love that phase.

However, you will soon learn that the best toys you can buy are tupperware for clanging around and putting things in, a few cars and trains, a couple action figures, some blocks and well, that's about it. Until he get mobile outside - then its scooters and bikes and helmets, of course. I don't buy toys anymore.

It is true that patience is a preemie mom's best friend. So glad he's progressing. We had that first toy and he has loved that thing through many stages. Thanks for visiting Gavin's blog. Hope to hear from you again.

Oh I looove this post. I'm taught patience so often with Lincoln and each time I swear that I'm going to chill about the next thing. But I find myself all caught up in a 'diagnosis' or a Dr's prediction. God has a timing that can't compete with anything we imagine on this earth. I love these pictures and the message this post sends. Thanks for this. It just reminded me, again today, how I should approach this life...

LOL, isn't that always the way!?!

Kyle is lucky to have such a wonderful mother like you! You took a scary situation and worked like hell to make it a good situation.

Good job Sweet Kyle!

Sorry I've been missing in blog world. I'm unfortunately dealing with some health issues. But I'll be back soon!
